Annual Hot Blues and BBQ a Smashing Success, won by LUTHER BADMAN KEITH BLUES
BAND The 1st annual Hot Blues and
BBQ in Oxford was a smashing success! Attendance was pegged at around 1,800 despite
the torturously hot and humid temperatures. Everyone in attendance found their
own ways to seek shelter from the weather, and the early reports from festival-goers
were overwhelmingly positive, thus paving the way for a 2nd annual event in June
of 2006. All 10 bands that competed in round 1 of the Motor City Breakdown
were pumped up and ready for battle, and responded by giving the performance of
their lives. This event is part of a series of competitions in which the winning
acts advance to the next round, with the ultimate goal of sending one band from
metro Detroit to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn. Partnering
with Oxford for this event were the Detroit Blues Society, Big City Rhythm and
Blues Magazine, HMR Guitars, Guitar Center, and Axis Music Academy. The panel
of 8 music / media professionals scored each act according to the Blues Foundation
rules and the results were as follows:
